The Abbasid Caliph al-Mutawakil gifted a horse to the poet Al-Buhturi.

The horse died on the same day!

So the poet compiled the following poetry:

“You gifted me a truly marvellous creation,
A mare, which blew fast like the flying wind!
In one night, it travelled from here to the hereafter!”

من طرائف العرب :
أهدى الخليفةُ العباسيُّ المتوكِّلُ الشاعرَ البحتري فَرَسًا، فمات الفرسُ في اليوم نفسه، فأنشدَ البحتريُّ مخاطبًا المتوكل:
أهديتَني أُعجوبةً بين الخلائقِ نادرةْ
فرسًا كأنّ هبوبَها مثلُ الرياحِ الطائرةْ
في ليلةٍ قَطَعَ المسافة من هنا للاخرة
