Keeping Birds In Cages
Q: Is it allowed to keep a bird in a cage?
A: According to scholars – Yes – as long as its taken good care of.
It has been narrated:
I had a brother called Abu `Umar, who, I think, had been newly weaned. Whenever he (that child) was brought to the Prophet (ﷺ) the Prophet (ﷺ) used to say, “O Abu `Umar! What did Al-Nughair (nightingale) (do)?” It was a nightingale with which he used to play.

Ibn Hajar said about this:
“This shows that it is permissible to keep a bird in a cage and trim their wings, because Abu Umair’s bird would have been in these conditions.”
[“Fath al-Bari”, 10/548].
————————–
It is sinful to be negligent in feeding them and giving them water to drink.
A person went to Hell for starving a cat.
They should also be kept out of extreme weather conditions, such as heat & cold.
They should also be kept out of fear/danger – i.e. cats.
If they have a disease, the owner should get them medical treatment.
If their wings are trimmed, they should be left out as well, to enjoy some freedom.
And if a person provides for these birds/animals – it will count as charity, inshaAllah
