Refraining From A Bad Deed Is A Good Deed

Refraining from a BAD DEED counts as a GOOD DEED – ترك المعصية

The Prophet said that God has told the Angels:
وَإِنْ تَرَكَهَا مِنْ أَجْلِي فَاكْتُبُوهَا لَهُ حَسَنَةً
“… And if a person refrains from doing [a BAD DEED] for My Sake, then record it as a GOOD DEED.”
[“Sahih Bukhari”, 7501].

Ibn Hajar explained:
أن ترك المعصية كف عن الشر، والكف عن الشر خير
“Abstaining from sin is to refrain from evil, and to refrain from evil is a good deed.”
[‘Fath al-Bari’, 11/334].

So – every time you CAN fornicate, drink, cheat & gamble – but YOU STOP YOURSELF – that gets recorded as a good deed.
So you can get rewarded for literally DOING NOTHING – just the intention and will-power.
The only condition is that it has to be left for the sake of God, meaning: a person should refrain because its a sin and displeasing to God.
