The story of ‘Uday bin Rabia – عدي بن أبي ربيعة

A man was captured in a tribal war, in times of Jahiliyah.
They asked him to show them ‘Uday bin Rabia.
The prisoner said: “If I show him to you, do you promise to let me go?”
They said: “Yes.”
The prisoner said: “I am ‘Udai bin Rabia.”

The prisoner they had captured was the actual man they were looking for…but they didn’t know … so they had to let him go, to keep their word.

كان الحارث بن عباد في حرب وأراد أن يظفر بعدي بن أبي ربيعة ليثأر منه وبينما هو في الحرب أسر رجلا فطلب منه أن يدله على عدي بن أبي ربيعة فقال له الأسير: أتطلقني من أسري إن دللتك عليه؟
قال : نعم
فقال: أنا عدي بن أبي ربيعة.
فأطلقه وفاء بوعده
