For The Sake Of Allah

Ibn al-Jawzi wrote:

ومررت بقوم قد اجتمعوا على رجل يضربونه فقلت لرجل يجيد ضربه ما حال هذا قال والله ما أدري ما حاله ولكنني رأيتهم يضربونه فضربته معهم لله عز و جل وطلبا للثواب

A man walked past a group of people who were beating someone up, so he joined them in beating the guy up!

Someone asked: “What is his crime?”

The man said: “I don’t know. I just saw them beating him, so I joined in for the sake of Allah, anticipating reward.”
