Funny Incident

Ibn al-Jawzi mentions a funny incident:

وكان لبعض المغفلين حمار فمرض الحمار، فنذر إن عوفي حماره صام عشرة أيام فعوفي الحمار فصام، فلما تمت مات الحمار فقال: يا ربت تلهيت بي! ولكن رمضان إلى هنا يجيء والله لآخذن من نقاوته عشرة أيام لا أصومها.

A man lost his donkey…
He vowed [نذر] to God, that he would fast 10 days if God helps him find his donkey.
He found his donkey.
After he completed his 10 days of fasting – his donkey suddenly died.
He said: ‘O Allah, I am deducting these 10 days from Ramadan.’
