The Bahila Tribe

There is an old infamous Arab tribe which had a bad reputation and nobody wanted to be associated with, it was called the ‘Bahila’ [باهلة] tribe…

A Bedouin was asked: ‘If you were to be given half of this kingdom, would you join this tribe?’

The Bedouin said: ‘No.’

He was asked: ‘How about in exchange for the entire kingdom?!’

The Bedouin said: ‘No.’

He was asked: ‘Would you join this tribe if that guaranteed your entrance to Paradise?’

The Bedouin went quiet….

He then said: ‘On one condition …’

He was asked: ‘What is your condition?’

The Bedouin said: ‘Only if nobody in Paradise knows that I belonged to the Bahili tribe!’

وفي يومٍ دخل أعرابيٌ على القائد الفاتح قتيبة بن مسلم الباهلي، فقال قتيبة للأعرابي: أتحبُّ أن تكون من باهلة وأعطيك نصف الإمارة؟!فقال الأعرابي: لا.قال قتيبة: أتحب أن تكون من باهلة وتكون لك الإمارة كلها؟!فقال الأعرابي: لا.فقال قتيبة: أتحب أن تكون من باهلة وتدخل الجنة!!فسكت الأعرابي قليلاً ثم قال: بشرطٍ أيها الأمير..قال: ما هو؟!قال: ألا يعرف أهل الجنة أني من باهلة!!
