The Ugly Khariji

The Ugly Khariji and his Beautiful Wife – عِمْرَانُ بْنُ حِطَّانَ

Imran bin Hittan was a Khaariji [he’s a narrator in Sahih Bukhari].

He was very ugly but his wife was very beautiful.

One day he kept staring at her beauty, so she said to him: “Glad tidings, you and I are both going to Paradise.”

“How do you know that?”, he asked.

She said:

“Because you were blessed with me and you were thankful,
And I was plagued with someone like you and I was patient!
The thankful and the patient ones are both in Paradise.”

دَخَلَ عِمْرَانُ بْنُ حِطَّانَ يَوْمًا عَلَى امْرَأَتِهِ ، وَكَانَ عِمْرَانُ قَبِيحًا ذَمِيمًا قَصِيرًا ، وَقَدْ تَزَيَّنَتْ وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَةً حَسْنَاءَ ، فَلَمَّا نَظَرَ إِلَيْهَا ازْدَادَتْ فِي عَيْنِهِ حُسْنًا ، فَلَمْ يَتَمَالَكْ أَنْ يُدِيمَ النَّظَرَ إِلَيْهَا
فَقَالَتْ : مَا شَأْنُكَ ؟
قَالَ : لَقَدْ أَصْبَحْتِ وَاللَّهِ جَمِيلَةً
فَقَالَتْ : ” أُبَشِّرُكَ ، فَإِنِّي وَإِيَّاكَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ
قَالَ : وَمِنْ أَيْنَ عَلِمْتِ ذَاكَ ؟
قَالَتْ : لأَنَّكَ أُعْطِيتَ مِثْلِي فَشَكَرْتَ ، وَابْتُلِيتُ بِمِثْلِكَ فَصَبَرْتُ ، وَالصَّابِرُ وَالشَّاكِرُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ
