Son Hitting Father

My Son hit me – ابني ضربني

A man came to a scholar of Samarqand to complain about his son.

Man: “My son hit me!”

Scholar: “A son hitting his father???!”

Man: “Yes, he hit me and hurt me.”

Scholar: “Didn’t you teach him any manners and knowledge? – هل علمته الأدب والعلم”

Man: “No.”

Scholar: “Didn’t you teach him Qur’an? – فهل علمته القرآن؟ ”

Man: “No.”

Scholar: “So what was he occupied with in his life? – فأي عمل يعمل؟ ”

Man: “Agriculture.”

Scholar: “You still don’t know why he hit you?”

Man: “No.”

Scholar: “Maybe, as he woke up in the morning he was riding his donkey and you appeared out of nowhere in front of him – and he thought you are a COW!

That’s why he hit you.

Thank God that your skull is still intact.”

[“Tanbih al-Ghafilin”, 79-80].

MEANING:

When you don’t teach them manners and values,
don’t complain when they don’t have manners.
