Poets

Another funny incident:

ذهب مجموعة من الشعراء إلى مجلس الخليفة فراءهم أحد المتطفلين فتبعهم حتى إذا استقروا في مجلس الخليفة بدأوا يلقون القصائد واحداً بعد الآخر
فلما وصل الدور عند المتطفل أُمر بإلقاء القصيدة فقال : أنا لست بشاعر
قال الخليفة : و ما الذي أتى بك ؟
قال المتطفل : أنا لست بشاعر أنا من الغاوين
يقصد قوله تعالى ( و الشعراء يتبعهم الغاوون )

A group of poets entered upon the king to read poetry to him.
Among them was an intruder.
He was not a poet, but just followed them to get inside the kingdom.
They all read their poetry.
Then the king ordered this intruder to read his poetry.
He replied: “I’m not a poet”.
The king asked: “So what have you brought with you?”
He replied: “I’m not a poet, I’m one of the Ghaawoon.”

He meant the Qur’anic verse: “As for the poets, they are followed by the Ghaawoon (those who are astray).” [Qur’an 26:224].
