A Good Leader

A good leader – عروة بن محمد

When Urwa b. Muhammad was declared the governor of Yemen, he said:

يا أهل اليمن هذه راحلتي ، فإن خرجت بأكثر منها فأنا سارق

“O people of Yemen! This here is my camel.
If I exit your lands with anything more than it, then I am a thief.”

[“Tahdhīb al-Kamāl”, 20/34].

He remained governor of Yemen for 20 years.

He left Yemen with only a copy of the Qur’an and his sword – for personal protection.
