Poets & Governors

The poets & governors

A poet once read a poem, praising a stingy governor.
In return, the governor gifted him a cloth which people put on the back of donkeys.
People asked him: “what is this?”
The poet replied: “I honoured the governor with my finest poem, the good governor honoured me with his finest clothes/garment.”

Another Bedouin poet once praised a stingy governor.
The governor gave him nothing in return.
The governor asked: “why is your jaw crooked?”
The poet replied: “Perhaps it’s God’s punishment on me for falsely praising certain individuals…”
