The King Who Feared Rebellion
A king once feared rebellion by his people, and one of his government advisers told him:
جوع كلبك يتبعك
‘𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂.’
If you keep people dependent on you, they will need you….
Many countries of the world apply this policy, keeping poor countries needy and dependent on aid. If they don’t want to obey orders, they can then threaten them with financial sanctions, embargoes, starvation etc. These are their trump cards.
If these countries become self-sufficient, they won’t need them anymore. They will lose leverage and influence over them. These countries will turn away from them and go their own way… because they won’t need them.
This doesn’t only happen in politics, it also happens in families:
It happens that some men suffering from inferiority-complex will close the doors of opportunities on their wives, to prevent them from becoming self-sufficient and independent. They want to keep them dependent on them, to keep a leverage over them and make sure they cannot go elsewhere.
It’s a sign of weakness… good people win hearts and don’t deploy these type of cheap tactics.
