Small Acts, Great Reward

1 grape & 1 date in Charity – الصدقة

Did you know that even 1 grape or even 1 date can safe a person from Hellfire?

1- Aisha said:

جَاءَتْنِي مِسْكِينَةٌ تَحْمِلُ ابْنَتَيْنِ لَهَا فَأَطْعَمْتُهَا ثَلاَثَ تَمَرَاتٍ فَأَعْطَتْ كُلَّ وَاحِدَةٍ مِنْهُمَا تَمْرَةً وَرَفَعَتْ إِلَى فِيهَا تَمْرَةً لِتَأْكُلَهَا فَاسْتَطْعَمَتْهَا ابْنَتَاهَا فَشَقَّتِ التَّمْرَةَ الَّتِي كَانَتْ تُرِيدُ أَنْ تَأْكُلَهَا بَيْنَهُمَا فَأَعْجَبَنِي شَأْنُهَا فَذَكَرْتُ الَّذِي صَنَعَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ ‏ “‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ أَوْجَبَ لَهَا بِهَا الْجَنَّةَ أَوْ أَعْتَقَهَا بِهَا مِنَ النَّارِ

“A poor woman came to me along with her 2 daughters.
I gave her 3 dates.
She gave 1 date to each of them and then she took up 1 date and brought that to her mouth in order to eat that, but her daughters expressed desire to eat it.
She then divided that 1 date that she intended to eat between them.
The Prophet said: “God has assured Paradise for her because of this act of her”, or “He has rescued her from Hell-Fire.”

2- Yahya related that Malik said:

وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ مِسْكِينًا، اسْتَطْعَمَ عَائِشَةَ أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهَا عِنَبٌ فَقَالَتْ لإِنْسَانٍ خُذْ حَبَّةً فَأَعْطِهِ إِيَّاهَا فَجَعَلَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا وَيَعْجَبُ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ أَتَعْجَبُ كَمْ تَرَى فِي هَذِهِ الْحَبَّةِ مِنْ مِثْقَالِ ذَرَّةٍ

“I heard that a beggar asked for food from A’isha while she had some grapes. She told some one to take him one grape. He began to look in amazement. A’isha said, ‘Are you amazed? How many atoms’ weights do you see in this grape?’ ” (referring to Sura 99 ayat 7: “So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it.”.

3- Imam Abdullah Ibn Mubarak said:

رُبَّ عمل صغير تعظمه النية، ورب عمل كبير تصغره النية

“How many practices are small, but they become big because of the intention of the perpetrators.
And how many great practices, become small because the intent of the perpetrators ”

[“Siyar A’lam al-Nubala”, 8/400].

As you can see … just 1 date, made Paradise Wajib for her and saved her from Hellfire.

Never belittle charity … even a small grape or date can turn into a big mountain of reward on the Day of Judgement.
