1 Dirham overtook 100,000 Dirhams – النسائي

The Prophet Said:

روى النسائي (2528) عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ( سَبَقَ دِرْهَمٌ مِائَةَ أَلْفٍ درْهَم ) قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَكَيْفَ ؟ قَالَ : ( رَجُلٌ لَهُ دِرْهَمَانِ فَأَخَذَ أَحَدَهُمَا فَتَصَدَّقَ بِهِ ، وَرَجُلٌ لَهُ مَالٌ كَثِيرٌ فَأَخَذَ مِنْ عُرْضِ مَالِهِ مِائَةَ أَلْفٍ فَتَصَدَّقَ بِهَا ) .

“1 Dirham surpassed 100,000 Dirhams.”

They said: “How?”

The Prophet said:

“A man only had 2 Dirhams and gave 1 in charity.

Another man had a huge amount of wealth and took out 100,000 Dirhams and gave them in charity.”

Meaning:

One person was rich, so his 100K charity equalled a small amount of his total wealth.

The other person who gave 1 Dirham, actually gave away half his wealth in charity.

So his charity was superior.
