Weak Hadith About Beards
Hadith: “My Lord commanded me to grow my beard”
This narration is weak:
It is narrated by Ibn Bushran:
“A person from the Zoroastrians [from Persia] came to the Prophet. He had shaved his beard but kept his moustache. The Prophet said to him: Woe to you ! Who commands you to do so?” He replied: “Thus our Lord commands us – Kisra.” The Prophet then said: “But my Lord commanded me to grow a beard and to cut mustache”
[‘Al-Amali’, 128].
This is the marfu’ version, which goes via Abu Hurairah to the Prophet, but it is weak, because of the narrator: ‘Isma bin Mohammad
About him, the scholars said:
Abu Haatim said that he is not strong:
Al-Daraqutni said that he is rejected: متروك
Ibn ‘Uday said all his narrations are odd and he is rejected in Hadith:
Al-‘Uqayli said that he narrates false narrations attributing them to reliable narrations and that his Ahadith should not be relied upon:
Dhahabi accused him of narrating false Ahadith:
Ibn Sa’d said he’s weak:
Yahya Ibn Ma’een said he is a liar and fabricates Ahadith:
—————————————
It has been narrated via some Mursal chains, some of which are authentic and others weak, but they don’t reach to the Prophet.
There are other authentic narrations in which the Prophet tells the believers to keep their beards, but the jurists disagree about whether it is an obligation or an encouragement, see here: https://www.facebook.com/mohmand.laghmani/posts/10160325405683496
