Studying Worldly Sciences – العلوم الدنيوية

The Prophet supplicated for Mu’awiyah to excel in Mathematics:
اللهم علّم معاوية الكتاب والحساب
“O God, teach Mu’awiyah the Book and Mathematics.”
[“Silsilah as-Sahihah”, 3227].

Mathematics is from the worldly sciences.

And when God wanted to show the superiority of Adam to the Angels, He taught Adam the names of animals, birds, fishes, trees, etc. [Read Qur’an 2:30-33 & its Tafsir]. It was worldly knowledge. God then asked the Angels do name these things, but they couldn’t. Then God asked Adam to name them, and Adam was able because God had taught him. With this knowledge God honoured Adam and raised his position.

Any knowledge that benefits humans in this life and the next should sought and never belittled.
