Taming The Inner-Self

Ibn Hazm said:

واعلم أن رياضة النفس أصعب من رياضة الأسد

‘𝐓𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫-𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 [𝐧𝐚𝐟𝐬] 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧.’

This is why the scholars used to say: conquering the rebellious Nafs is a greater achievement than conquering a city!

The inner-self craves for evil and sin … and only those who manage to subdue it and drag it in chains to God’s obedience, will be successful.
