Good Deeds Can Wipe Out Major Sins
Imam Musa Shahin Lashin said:
أن سقى الماء يكفر الكبائر
‘𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝘀 [𝗸𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗮𝗶𝗿].’
[‘Fath al-Mun’im’, 9/23].
He derived this from the following Hadith:
The Prophet said:
‘A prostitute saw a dog moving around a well on a hot day and hanging out its tongue because of thirst. She drew water for it in her shoe and she was pardoned.’
[‘Sahih Muslim’, 2245a].

So she was a prostitute and that’s a major sin, but she was forgiven due to this act. So if you have committed major sins, do not despair.
And Imam al-Qurtubi said: this was the reward of giving water to a dog, so imagine the rewards of giving water to human beings.
We should all try to fund water-well projects if we can.
