Your True Worth – الميزان الرباني

It’s not important how people value you… the important thing is how God values you.

1- When the people of the caravan found Prophet Yusuf in the well, Allah says:

وَشَرَوْهُ بِثَمَنٍ بَخْسٍ دَرَاهِمَ مَعْدُودَةٍ وَكَانُوا فِيهِ مِنَ الزَّاهِدِين
“THEY SOLD HIM FOR A SMALL PRICE – JUST A FEW DIRHAMS! SO LITTLE DID THEY VALUE HIM!” [Qur’an 12:20].

He seemed very cheap, almost worthless in their eyes.

Yet – in the sight of God he was a PROPHET and God showed him that the SUN, MOON & STARS prostrated to him in his dream!!! [Qur’an 12:4] [symbolic for his father, mother and brothers].

2- Similarly, about Prophet Abraham, Allah says:

قَالُوا سَمِعْنَا فَتًى يَذْكُرُهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهُ إِبْرَاهِيم
“THEY SAID: “WE HEARD A YOUTH/YOUNG-BOY (فَتًى) TALK ABOUT (the Idols), THEY CALL HIM ABRAHAM.” [Qur’an 21:60].

To them, Abraham was just a boy …

Yet – Allah says about Abraham:

إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ كَانَ أُمَّةً
“VERILY, ABRAHAM WAS A NATION!” [Qur’an 16:120].

3- When Abdullah Ibn Mas’oud climbed a tree, some people laughed at his skinny legs.

The Prophet rebuked them, saying:

وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَهُمَا أَثْقَلُ فِي الْمِيزَانِ مِنْ جَبَلِ أُحُدٍ
“I SWEAR BY THE ONE IN WHOSE HAND MY SOUL IS – HIS LEGS ARE HEAVIER ON [GOD’S] SCALE THAN THE MOUNTAIN OF UHUD!!!”

[“Musnad Ahmad”, 920 – Ahmad Shakir said the chain is authentic – إسناده صحيح].

4- Similarly, there are some people, who are considered “big” by the people.

Yet – in the sight of Allah, they weigh less than a mosquito!

The Prophet said:

إِنَّهُ لَيَأْتِي الرَّجُلُ الْعَظِيمُ السَّمِينُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ لاَ يَزِنُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ جَنَاحَ بَعُوضَةٍ وَقَالَ اقْرَءُوا ‏{‏فَلاَ نُقِيمُ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَزْنًا‏
“On the Day of Resurrection, a huge fat man will come who will not weigh, the weight of the wing of a mosquito in Allah’s Sight.” And then the Prophet (ﷺ) added: ‘We shall not give them any weight on the Day of Resurrection ‘ (18.105).

[Sahih Bukhari, 4729].

True Worth is measured by God’s criteria, not people’s criteria.

May Alalah make our scales heavy on the Day of Judgement , Ameen
