Whispers Of The Devil

Ibn al-Jawzi mentions:

جاء رجلاً إلى أبي حازم فقال له : إن الشيطان يأتيني فيقول إنك قد طلقت زوجتك فيشككني !! فقال له : أوليس قد طلقتها ؟! قال لا .قال : ألم تأتيني أمس فطلقتها عندي ؟! فقال والله ما جئتك إلا اليوم ولا طلقتها بوجه من الوجوه . قال : فاحلف للشيطان إذا جاءك كما حلفت لي وأنت في عافية “.

A man came to Abu Hazim and said: “The Devil keeps coming to me saying: “You have divorced your wife.” It’s making me doubtful.”
Abu Hazim asked: “Did you not divorce her?”
The man said: “No!”
Abu Hazim asked: “Did you not come to me the other day and divorced her right in front of me?!”
The man said: “WALLAAHI! I haven’t come to you except today! There is NO WAY that I would divorce her!!!”
Abu Hazim said: “If the Devil comes to you again – argue with him like you just argued with me, and you will be fine.”
