Imam Ali vs the Khawaarij – الخوارج

The Prophet prophesized the Fitan of the extremist Khawarij heretics that raised their ugly head in the time of Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib.

Ali fought them in Nahrawan, fulfilling the prophecy.

It has been narrated with an authentic chain:

كنا مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فانقطعت نعله فتخلف علي يخصفها فمشى قليلا ثم قال : إن منكم من يقاتل على تأويل القرن كما قاتلت على تنزيله فاستشرف لها القوم وفيهم أبو بكر وعمر رضي الله عنهما قال أبو بكر : أنا هو قال : لا قال عمر : أنا هو قال : لا ولكن خاصف النعل عليا فاتيناه فبشرناه فلم يرفع به رأسه كأنه قد كان سمعه من رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم

The Prophet’s shoe was damaged, so he asked Ali to repair it.
He walked a little and said:

“Among you is he who will fight for the INTERPRETATION (TA’WEEL – تأويل) of the Qur’an, as I fought for its REVELATION (TANZEEL – تنزيل).”

Abu Bakr said: “Am I the one?”. He said, “No”.
Omar said: “Am I the one?” He said, “No. Rather, he is the one repairing the shoe, Ali.”
So, the companions went to him, and gave him the good news.
But he did not raise his head, as if he had already heard it from the Prophet.”

The neo-khawarij extremists of today, like ISIS, are the remnants of those same filthy Khawarij of the past.

The Muslims are fighting them over their false-INTERPRETATIONS of religion.

Our dispute with them is not about REVELATION, it’s about INTERPRETATION.
