Watering Down The Religion

Watering down religion … الفرقان

Medicine eradicates disease, it does not adapt to the disease.
Similarly, the Qur’an does not adapt & conform to the ills of society, it aims to eradicate evil.
Don’t bend the rules of the Qur’an to make them compatible with the ills of your society & culture.
The society needs to adapt to the Qur’an, not the other way round.
Another name of the Qur’an is ‘Al-Furqaan’ (الفرقان), which means: the Criterion.
Our Standard against which we measure everything is the Qur’an.

It is said:
فالدواء لا يعرف بطعمه
The effectiveness of a medicine is not known by its good taste.

Sometimes, the truth will be a bitter pill we have to slick, for our own well-being.
Islam is a complete-package – you cannot pick and choose.
Either take it all, or leave it all.

When the Prophet came, he made clear:

– Don’t be a racist
– Don’t bury your daughters alive
– Don’t oppress anyone
– Don’t abandon the orphans
– Don’t steal
– Don’t fornicate
– etc. etc.

The pre-Islamic society of Arabia was full of evil practices, so the Prophet said:

ألا كل شيء من أمر الجاهلية تحت قدمي موضوع
“Behold, every [evil] from the times of Jahiliyah is under my feet – completely abolished.”

If the aim of the Prophets was to adapt to the evils of society – there would have been no reason to send them.

The entire purpose of the Prophets was to bring reform in society.

It also doesn’t mean we turn things that are flexible into rigid, and don’t find common ground where possible – no, we should.

The Sahaba kept the good aspects of their culture, and abandoned the bad – so should we.
