The Dangers Of Ignorance

There was a great linguist by the name of Imam Abu Ja’far al-Nuhas, who lived more than 1000 years ago. He has written many beneficial books on Arabic grammar.

He was so eloquent that the average laymen did not understand his speech.

That actually lead to his death!

It is reported that he was once sitting by the river Nile and he read some beautiful lines of poetry. A layman peasant walked past him and did not understand what he was saying, so he thought that this linguist was a magician, putting a spell on the River Nile…so he pushed the linguist into the river and the linguist drowned!

It is difficult for a smart person to live in an ignorant society, surrounded by fools …

كان الإمامُ أبو جعفر النّحّاس أحد كبار النّحاة المصريّين في القرن الرّابع الهجريّ، ومن مؤلّفاته: “إعراب القرآن”، و”معاني القرآن”، و”التفّاحة في النّحو”، و”صناعة الكُتّاب”، و”شرح ديوان امرئ القيس”، و”شرح المعلّقات السّبع”، وغيرها من الكتب النّفيسة في اللغة والأدب.أمّا وفاتُهُ فقد رُوِيَ أنَّهُ خرج من بيتِه يقصدُ نهرَ النّيل ليستنشقَ الهواءَ العليلَ ويروّح عن نفسِه، ثُمّ جلس على ضفّة النّهر –وكان منسوب النّهر مرتفعًا- فأرادَ أن يُسلّيَ نفسه بتقطيع بعض الأبيات عروضيًّا ومراجعة أوزانها، فأخذ يرفع صوته في تقطيع التّفعيلات:مُستَفْعِلُن مُسْتَفْعِلُن مُسْتَفْعِلُنفَعُولُن فَعُولُن فَعُولن فَعُولنفسَمِعَهُ أَحدُ العَوامّ من سكّان الفسطاط، فلم يفهَمْ عليهِ شيئًا، ففزعَ وخافَ، ثُمّ صاحَ: إنّهُ يسحرُ النِّيلَ وأهلَ مِصر! ثُمَّ أخذَ الإمامَ النّحّاس وَأَلْقَى به في نَهْرِ النِّيلِ، فغرِقَ الإمام! وكانت وفاتُه المفجعةُ في سنة 338هـ.فأيُّ عِلمٍ أغرَقَهُ الجهلُ في النِّيل؟!
