Dignity

Antarah bin Shaddad, the Jahili poet, says in a poem:

‎لا تَسقِني ماءَ الحَياةِ بِذِلَّةٍ
‎‏ بَل فَاِسقِني بِالعِزِّ كَأسَ الحَنظَلِ
“Don’t offer me the water of life,
if it lacks dignity.
Pour me a cup of bitterness,
if it contains dignity.”
