Thorns From Flowers & Flowers From Thorns

Part of good manners (حسن الخلق) is not to boast about your lineage or judge others by their lineage and family status.

The Persian Poet Sa’di Shirazi says:

هنر بنمای اگر داری نـه گـوهـر
گـل از خار است و ابراهیم از آزر
“DISPLAY YOUR VIRTUES IF YOU HAVE ANY, NOT YOUR ORIGIN;
THE ROSE IS THE OFFSPRING OF THORNS AND ABRAHAM OF AZAR.”

He means: just like the beautiful ROSE came forth from among the THORNS, so can good people come forth from among bad people.

Consider the following:

1- Abraham was a Prophet, his FATHER was a Moshrik.
2- Noah was a Prophet, his SON was a Kafir.
3- Lut was a Prophet, his WIFE was a Kafirah.
4- Asia was a Momina, her HUSBAND the pharaoh was a Kafir.

It is stated in the Qur’an:

يُخْرِجُ الْحَيَّ مِنَ الْمَيِّتِ وَيُخْرِجُ الْمَيِّتَ مِنَ الْحَيِّ
“He [God] brings out the living from the dead;
And brings out the dead from the living.” [30:19].

Good people may come forth from bad people.
Bad people may come forth from good people.

Nobody is born guilty.
Nobody is guilty by association.

We don’t choose our relatives.
Everyone starts with a clean plate.

God guides whom He wills.

So we should treat each individual separately.
