Building A Well

Building a Well – الصدقة الجارية

The Prophet said:

“A prostitute was forgiven by God, because, passing by a panting dog near a well and seeing that the dog was about to die of thirst, she took off her shoe, and tying it with her head-cover she drew out some water for it.
So, Allah forgave her because of that.”

[Sahih Bukhari, 3321].

Imam al-Qurtubi commented on this in his Tafsir (7/215):

“If someone’s sins have increased, he/she should provide water to others.”

If there is so much reward in giving water to a dog, how about providing water to humans?

If you build a well in deprived areas – you will get its rewards, even if a dog or a bird drinks from its water.

It’s not even expensive in some parts of the world, especially if you build a simple well.

And if 4-5 people come together, they can split the costs and build a well, every month – without getting hit financially.
