Approaching Your Farmland

The Qur’an states:
نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ
“Your wives are like farmland to you.” [2:223].

Imam al-Qurtubi explained in his Tafsir:
ففرج المرأة كالأرض ، والنطفة كالبذر ، والولد كالنبات ،
“The private part of females is likened to the field,
the sperm is likened to the seed,
and the child is likened to the plant.”
[“Al-Jami li Ahkam al-Qur’an”, 3/93].

A farmer approaches his field not just for the sake of pleasure, but to acquire produce.
A farmer takes good care of his farm and does not abandon or neglect it.
A farmer protects and guards his farmland.
A farmer does not plough into his farm when its dry, but only digs after its wet.
A farmer does not waste his seeds by planting them into barren places of his farm, but only plants them in the place that is fertile and capable of reproduction.
