The Prophet’s Were Merchants
The Prophet encouraged Trade –
The Prophet said:
“The truthful, trustworthy merchant is with the Prophets; the truthful; and the martyrs.”
[“Tirmidhi”, 1209 –
The Prophets and his Companions used to trade.
So the moshrikin said: How can we follow a human like us – who eats and walks in the markets?!
Then God revealed:
“Every messenger we ever sent before you ate food and walked in the markets.” [Qur’an 25:20].
Ibn Kathir says in the Tafsir of this verse:
“[And they walked in the markets], meaning: to seek trade and earn a living.”
[Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 25/20].
There is no shame in this – shame is in begging people and being reliant on others.
According to some scholars, trade is even more superior than voluntary prayers!!!
