The simple, yet unshakeable faith of the elderly – إيمان العجائز

It is said that Imam Raazi once visited the city of Nisabur, and many people gathered around him.

An old woman was told: “This is a scholar who has found 1,000 evidences for the existence of God!”

Being unimpressed, the old woman said: “If he didn’t have 1,000 doubts, he wouldn’t have sought 1,000 evidences!” She recited: “Is there doubt about God?” [Qur’an 14:10].

When Imam Raazi was told about this, he said: “O God, grant me faith, like the faith of the elderly.”

يحكى ان الرازي ذهب يوما الى نيسابور فاجتمع الناس حوله وازدحموا اليه الا امرأة عجوز كانت جالسة لا تأبه به فقيل لها الا تأتين لتري الرازي؟ قالت ومن الرازي هذا ؟ فقيل لها انه عالم يعرف الف دليل على وجود الله فقالت المرأة لو لم يكن في قلبه شك لما احتاج الى الف دليل. افي الله شك فاطر السماوات والارض؟ فلما بلغ الرازي هذا بكى وقال: اللهم ايمانا كإيمان العجائز.
